Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Learn how to manage cardiorespiratory emergencies using a systematic approach as part of a resuscitation team.

Material covered in this course:

The aim of the ACLS course is to prepare health care providers to initiate advanced resuscitative efforts in response to cardiovascular emergencies experienced by adults.

At the end of the ACLS Provider Course, the successful learner will know how to manage cardiorespiratory emergencies using the systemic ACLS approach. Resuscitation team members will know what to do and when to do it.  - ACLS Provider Manual (Page 2)

This course provides students with the opportunity to achieve greater understanding of the ACLS core content, and to have ample practice using resuscitative skills within experiential-based scenarios.

Course Specifics:

1.       An understanding of ACLS pharmacology, electrical therapy and advanced airway management including intubations.

2.       An understanding of ECG rhythm analysis sufficient to identify the following rhythms:

  • Sinus rhythm: bradycardia, normal, tachycardia
  • Atrial rhythms: tachycardia, flutter, fibrillation
  • Junctional rhythm: typical, accelerated, tachycardia
  • Ventricular: typical, accelerated, tachycardia, fibrillation
  • Blocks: 1st degree, 2nd degree (types 1 & 2), 3rd degree
  • Ectopics: premature atrial, junctional & ventricular (unifocal, multifocal, bigeminy, trigeminy, coupled)

Prerequisites required to take this course:
A. Prerequisites

Professional registration number as Physician, Dentist, Registered Nurse,
-Respiratory Therapist, Paramedic, Military QL 6 or above.

-With approval, eligible students may complete the course during the final year of their program. Provider cards will not be released to students upon graduation documentation is provided.

-Current Basic Rescuer Card (level C) issued within the last year.

B. Required Skills and Ability
